9 - MARMO E MEMORIA – Marble and Memory - Beyond Traditions (Stefano Petaccia and Eleonora Tarquini)

by Stefano Petaccia and Eleonora Tarquini
The project stems from a deep awareness of the progressive distancing between the community of Minucciano and its rich mining tradition. An activity that for generations has shaped the cultural identity of the territory, leaving an indelible mark on the social and economic fabric of the area. The loss of this bond, this vital connection, has led to a tangible decline in awareness of the traditions and passions that once drove the quarrymen of the past—central and indispensable figures in local history.
The primary and fundamental objective of the project is to restore this lost connection, creating a solid and lasting bridge between past and present, between quarrymen of yesterday and those of today. The project aims to enhance the invaluable heritage of knowledge and skills accumulated over decades, integrating diverse experiences and promoting a constructive and enriching intergenerational dialogue. Marmo e Memoria is structured in several phases, with particular focus on the creation of an interactive and engaging exhibition dedicated to the quarrymen and their history. This exhibition, conceived as a genuine meeting point between the community and its past, will offer visitors an immersive and multisensory experience through a display path illustrating the traditions, techniques, and passions related to quarry work. A key and distinctive element of the exhibition will be the active and direct participation of former quarrymen, who will act as expert guides and firsthand witnesses of a bygone era.
In summary, Marmo e Memoria aims to rediscover and enhance Minucciano's mining tradition by creating an engaging and interactive experience that allows the community to reclaim its cultural identity and pass it on to future generations. To amplify the impact of the exhibition and reach a wide and diverse audience, an integrated communication campaign is planned, including physical and digital informational materials such as flyers, brochures, and social media posts. The goal is also to engage young people, stimulating their interest in the history and traditions of the territory.
